About

Thank you for visiting my website

My writing and research are in the areas of pedagogy and practice. I hold a Bachelor of Arts from ANU, two Graduate Diplomas in Education, a Master of Education (Hons) from the University of Sydney, and a PhD in Education from Western Sydney University.

I have written two books since the award of my doctorate in December 2013. Links to my UTS profile and Academia sites detail peer-reviewed papers, book chapters, articles and professional association pieces I have written for academic, professional and corporate audiences. Throughout my career I have received national and international awards for outstanding contributions to student learning in Australian universities, for example: Australian Government: Office of Learning and Teaching (Citation – 2013); Global Award for Technology Enriched Instruction in Higher Education – Society for Information Technology in Teacher Education [SITE] and Microsoft [USA, 2014]; NSW Famelab Finalist – British Council (2017); including the Vice Chancellor’s Award for Social Impact in Teaching and Learning (UTS, 2019) for my work in English Teaching Methods – a subject I love.

I enjoy interacting with media commentators and writing for public forums like ‘The Conversation’ and the AARE Research Matters blog. I have a professional learning network that keeps me in touch with scholars in other countries, as well as a vibrant network of education leaders and classroom teachers both locally and internationally. I belong to many professional associations in education for research, curriculum, technology and AI in education.

A key strength as an educator is my theory-practice background. I take an action research approach that focuses on working at the ‘elbow of teachers in classrooms’ examining and deeply understanding their approaches to pedagogy, curriculum and assessment.

I will add the occasional blog post – I am not making a commitment to write all the time. I’ll also aim to upload professional learning resources and ideas that I think might be of interest to not only teachers in schools but those of us who teach in teacher education in universities.

I hope you will drop by on a regular basis. And remember to be kind.

I am privileged to live and work on the Land of the Bidjigal, Gadigal and Birrabirrragal clan groups of the Eora Nation, and pay my respect to Elders past and present.
